62nd Film Festival Locarno – input

PIAZZA GRANDE PROJECTIONS
noTICI loves to watch films on the piazza grande. We would be very pleased, if better films would be presented and the quality of the prints would be better in the future.
noTICI is mad about the fact, that during the projection, the restaurants start to close and start making very disturbing noises. We think the organisation should stop this.
INFORMATIONS & SCHEDULES
noTICI would like to give the input, to think about the informations and the screening schedule. We think this should be better done in the age of information technologies.
OVER ALL
noTICI thinks the organisation has to become a stronger picture of the horizon. Despite the many nice words on stage was felt that no consensus prevails, where the journey goes.
thanks to everyone, who have mad this 62nd Film Festival Locarno possible.

POM POKO
Tanukis, animals that are a cross between a dog and a racoon, found mainly in Japan, are alarmed at how their territory is shrinking year by year. This is due to humans cutting down their habitat to build houses on it. The situation has now become critical! The tanukis unite and draw up a five-year plan: to study humans and frighten them by use of a long-forgotten technique, the ability to shape-shift at will. In fact, the Japanese all know the folklore, via popular tales and illustrations, that tanukis have this mysterious capacity to change their form.
In Pom Poko, a 1994 animated film, Isao Takahata transforms these legendary animals into appealing and amusing characters to create a superb ecological fable, and holds a mirror up to humankind’s destructive behaviour towards the environment.
director: Isao TAKAHATA
we like this film very much; recommendation ****
UNTER BAUERN – Retter in der Nacht
The story is based on the memories of Marga Spiegel. In her narrative, published in 1965, she describes how courageous farmers in southern Münsterland hid her, her husband Siegmund {named Menne} and their little daughter Karin from 1943 until 1945, thus saving them from deportation to the extermination camps in the East. The film tells this story of survival with a sense for the absurd in daily life and not without the typical Westphalian humor.
Without reservation, the farmers offer the refugees their protection. That this turns them into heroes would never occur to them. They are used to weathering even dangerous situations somehow, guided only by their instinct and century-old code of ethics. They risk their own lives, and, if necessary, even that of their families. There is never a discussion about friendship, reliability, humanity.
director: Ludi Boeken
cast: Veronica Ferres, Armin Rohde, Margarita Broich, Martin Horn, Lia Hoensbroech
impressiv view 65 years back, recommendation ***
La guerre des fils de lumière contre les fils de ténèbres
Recording of Amos Gitai stage production at the Avignon Festival 2009. The story is adapted from the Jewish War written by historian Flavius Josephus. It recounts how the hebrew state lost its sovereignty at the end of the war with the Romans, marked by the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem and the fall of Masada. It’s important to listen carefully to this story, because of the actuallity in our time.
A very impressiv story, very well told, noTICI recommendation ****
